Frequently asked questions

How does online tutoring work?


Students must have access to a computer and high-speed internet. During the session, the student and I will use Skype, Google Hangouts or Zoom to hear and see each other, and an online whiteboard that we both can write on using a mouse or tablet. We can also upload any images or worksheets into the whiteboard. Sometimes we'll watch videos or use online tools. It’s very interactive and surprisingly easy! I recommend that students use a headset or earphones/earbuds with microphone during tutoring. It will cut down on background noise and allow us to hear each other better. Many times students are more comfortable if we just talk to each other and don't turn on our webcams. However, it is always nice to "meet" each other and say hi at the beginning of sessions! Most computers have a webcam built in, but if yours does not, I've found this logitech webcam to work well for most computers.




Can you help me in other subjects besides French?


I primarily tutor French (as you surely have deduced by now!). That said, I am fully billingual, therefore also give English conversation sessions. These sessions are great for students wanting to brush up on their English communication skills and pronunciation in a laid back, fun atmosphere where we cover a wide range of topics getting you ready to tackle any social situation. I also provide grade 1 to 6 homework support, whether it's math homework, science homework, French homework, history homework, or any school subject, and offer translation services. When are you available for tutoring?


I am available for tutoring Mondays and Thursdays from 9:00am to 7:30pm EST, Sundays from 12:00pm to 3:00pm. I book students on a first come-first-seved basis. You can book a 60-minute lesson, a 90-minute lesson, or a 120-minute lesson. All times are in EST.




How do I get started?

What is your cancellation policy?


  • Scheduled sessions with LESS THAN 48 business hours cancellation notice will be considered as having been given.
  • Scheduled sessions with AT LEAST 48 business hours cancellation notice may be rescheduled to another mutually convenient time the same week or the following week, at the latest.
  • Arriving 15 minutes late for a scheduled session without notifying will be counted as a No-Show cancellation and the class will be counted as given.




How do I issue payment?


Payment is to be sent prior to booking your lessons via Interac e-Transfer (Clients with Canadian banks) or PayPal (Clients with Non-Canadian banks) to alextutorsfrench@gmail.com.




How do I book lessons?


An online scheduling system for these slots makes signing up simple and eliminates email/phone tag. However, if you don't see any availability, send me a message and I will see what I can do.




What is your Student-Teacher Agreement?


Please find attached our Student-Teacher Agreement. By issuing payment you have agreed to the terms outlined in the document.
